Blk woman w kinky lookThe end of summer means last minute vacations! Whether you’re getting ready for lazy days on the beach or balmy nights in front of a campfire, don’t forget to take care of your tresses while you’re on the road. Here are four tips to ensure your locks come back from vacay as relaxed and healthy as you!

  1. Don’t stop your hair care regime! “But, I’m on vacation!” I know, I get it. You want to relax and sometimes your hair can be time consuming. But, taking care of your hair is another way to show yourself how important you are! Take the few minutes you need to wrap, roll or wash your hair. Trust me, it’s much easier than being stressed and frustrated the next day when your hair “won’t act right”. Besides, your hair should look as good as you feel!
  2. Bring your products! It’s tempting to pack light and leave your shampoo, conditioner and/or moisturizer at home. Don’t do it. Hotel shampoos and conditioners may be luxurious, but are they right for you? If you’ve taken the time to find out the products that work for you, use them. Use them all the time! Buy the travel size if you can. If you can’t, buy empty containers and make your own.
  3. Watch out for the sun! When you’re putting on sun block for your skin, don’t forget your hair. Lots of sunlight can affect your hair’s moisture, texture and color. Excessive sun exposure can make your hair dry and brittle causing unnecessary breakage and a coarse texture. Keep your tresses supple and your color bright by donning a floppy hat, scarf or spend some time in under a giant umbrella. Not only will it keep your hair looking its best, but it allows you to experiment with different summer styles!
  4. Wash it out! Sand, salt water and chlorine are not your hair’s friends. Feel free to spend a little time getting to know them, but then get rid of them as soon as you can! Keeping sand and chlorine in your hair longer than necessary is a risk you don’t want to take. Make sure if you’re spending a lot of time in a pool or on a beach with salt water that you wash your hair properly to remove any trace of residue or chemicals.

With these simple tips, you can eliminate any frustrations and come back home better than when you left. Safe, well rested and with well cared for vacation hair.
